<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high safety fluorine generating apparatus provided with a fluorine raw material containing a metal fluoride, a cell including a first and a second electrode between which the fluorine raw material is held and a first gas port, and a current supply means for passing DC current from the first electrode to the second electrode, wherein a gas produced from the contact surface of the first electrode with the fluorine raw material is led out from the first gas port. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The fluorine raw material 30 containing the metal fluoride 31 is held between the first electrode 11 and the second electrode 12 in the cell 10. The DC current is passed from the first electrode 11 to the second electrode 12 by the current supply means.
