The invention relates to a scanning rail (2) for transmitting power on at least one and/or from at least one consumer (48, 50, 52) that can be mounted on the scanning rail (2) on the device side and/or for data communication with at least one data processing device (48, 50, 52) that can be mounted on the scanning rail (2) on the device side via at least one electrical contact point (44, 46) that is provided on the device side on the scanning rail (2), said scanning rail being mountable on a support material (8). The electrical contact point is connected to an electrical contact point (6) on the scanning rail (2) in an electrically conducting fashion, said electrical contact point forming, when the scanning rail is in the finally assembled position, an electrically conductive connection with at least one electrically conductive coating (10) of the support material (8) and/or with at least one electrically conductive film that is arranged on the support material (8), thereby allowing the transmission of power or data communication. The invention further relates to the use of the scanning rail (2) for retrofitting to a shelving system (92) and/or to a shelve configured as the support material (8). The invention furthermore relates to a securing device for fixing a scanning rail (2) that can be mounted on a support material (8).
