<p>An optical communication system is provided with a station device, a plurality of remote devices which communicate with the station device, exchanging upstream signals/downstream signals subjected to wavelength multiplexing by TDMA/TDM, a relay device which functions as a relay between the station device and the remote devices, and an optical splitter which connects in a star shape the relay device and the remote devices. The relay device comprises a delay measurement part which starts, in response to a measurement request signal from the station device, a window period wherein upstream signals other than measurement upstream signals from respective remote devices are not received and measures a transmission delay period between the relay device and the remote devices within the window period, and a measurement result insertion part which inserts the measurement result into upstream signals to the station device. The station device comprises a control part which generates the measurement request signal, determines an amount of delay to be applied to transmission of the upstream signals by the remote devices using the measurement result from the relay device relating to the measurement request signal, and generates a delay instruction signal describing the amount of delay and an insertion part which inserts the measurement request signal and the delay instruction signal into downstream signals to the remote devices.</p> |
