PURPOSE: A heat assist magnetic recorder and a heat assist magnetic memory are provided to utilize a light source for heat assist self recording as a light source for read light transmission, thereby implementing the high record density and the high speed transmission. CONSTITUTION: A read device(20) reads out data from a magnetic recording medium. A light device(22) records data in the magnetic recording medium. In reading by the read device, a read signal is selected from the read device. In lighting by the light device, a light signal is selected from the light device. An input signal selection circuit(34) drives an optical transmitter with the selected signal. An output light selection unit outputs light outputted from the optical transmitter.
