Soft, flat-seal material, especially for cylinder head gaskets

Soft, flat-seal material (I), especially for the production of flat gaskets, comprising optionally metal-reinforced non-woven fabric with fibres, a binder, and a non-fibrous filler finely dispersed in the fabric and containing a powdered to fine granular silicone resin (II). Also claimed is a (i) process for the production of material (I) in which the fabric is made by a paper production process from homogeneous aqueous slurries of fibre material, latex binder, fillers and silicone resin, (ii) a process for the production of flat gaskets, especially cylinder head gaskets, in which the contours are stamped out separately from the fabric and the metal support, and these two components are then combined, and (iii) a soft flat gasket, especially a cylinder head gasket for internal combustion engines, made from material (I) as above.
