PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an authentication method and an authentication system for making fraudulence, such as personation difficult even when registered bio-information is stolen and copied. SOLUTION: The authentication system has a device to be authenticated and at least one authentication side device. The device to be authenticated has a means for reading and writing data from/in a recording medium, a means for acquiring bio-information, and a means for encrypting the bio-information. The authentication side device has a means for decrypting the bio-information and a means for checking and authenticating the decrypted bio-information. The device to be authenticated has a recording medium for registering bio-information that is divided from an authenticator and encrypted, and the remaining pieces of divided bio-information are respectively encrypted and registered in the authentication side device. The device to be authenticated or the authentication side device further has a means for generating an authenticator, and the authenticator is updated each time the bio-information is checked and authenticated.
