PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which maintains a fixed interval between a medium and an ink jet head without giving hindrance to smooth conveyance of the medium due to suction toward a platen, regardless of the medium type and environment. SOLUTION: The printer includes: a medium conveying mechanism for conveying a medium; an image forming mechanism for forming an image on the medium; the platen having suction holes for sucking the medium in an area where images are formed by the image forming mechanism; and a net-like member disposed on the platen, wherein the medium is sucked to the platen via the net-like member.
