Precision coating of symmetric rotating body e.g. damper in diesel engine

A process for precision coating of a rotationally symmetric body with a radiation curing, flowable or coatable monomer/oligomer system, has the body (1) held very accurately in a clamping arrangement (2) inside a closed processing chamber (3) and a solvent-free, radiation polymerisable and crosslinkable monomer/oligomer system being applied, to achieve high adhesion even on difficult surfaces without the use of an expensive surface pretreatment or primer. A doctor blade determines the coating profile and thickness before the latter is polymerised by ultra-violet (UV) and/or electron beam emission, then the coated product is then ready for use. The process equipment comprises a drive unit with a clamping system (2) enclosed by a processing chamber (3), with a coating application unit and doctor blade arranged on the base. In the upper part of the chamber (3) one or more UV-light sources are provided, and/or a window for low energy electron beams which can be closed or opened by shutters. A moveable radiation screen may cover the coating applicator and doctor blade.
