The device (10) has a base (12), an immersion trickle filter (44), an immersion trickle filter guiding unit (46) that is provided at the base, and a time measuring unit (14) for measuring predetermined time duration. A display unit displays the suitability of the dilution ratio of a color (38) for predetermined finishing. The base is designed in such a manner that the base is placed on a color container (36) and/or fastened to the color container. The guiding unit has a guiding rod (42) fastened to the filter, and a passage (40) provided at the base. An independent claim is also included for a method for examining dilution ratio of color.
