HIGH-VOLTAGE DISCHARGE LAMP OPERATION DEVICE AND ILLUMINATION INSTRUMENT

When a DC output voltage (Vbus) of a boost chopper circuit (1) is switched from a first DC output voltage (V1) to a second DC output voltage (V2), a boost chopper control circuit (2) intermittently operates the boost chopper circuit (1).  This reduces the stop time of the boost chopper circuit (1) as compared to a case when no intermittent operation is performed.  As a result, it is possible to supply a control power (Vcc) even when switching the DC output voltage (Vbus) of the boost chopper circuit (1) upon start of the high-voltage discharge lamp (LA) while avoiding increase of the size and cost of a control power supply circuit (5) which supplies a control power (Vcc).
