<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for coating a wire rope with an oil, which is mounted on at least one wire rope provided in a hanging device or the like, when the hanging device or the like is maintained and checked, and can homogeneously coat the outer peripheral surface of the wire rope with the oil in a state substantially stayed at the mounted position only by supplying a constant amount of the oil during the movement of the wire rope. Ž<P>SOLUTION: Provided is the device for coating the wire rope with the oil, comprising an oil-coating portion having an oil-guiding means in two hinge-bound halved cylinders, a holding portion capable of holding the wire rope separately from the coating portion, an opening means, and an urging means for urging the oil-coating portion and the holding portion in a direction for separating from each other in the axial direction of the wire rope, wherein, when the oil-coating portion approaches the holding portion in the axial direction of the wire rope with the movement of the wire rope, the opening means acts on the two halved cylinders of the oil-coating portion to reduce a tightening force or open the two halved cylinders, and the energizing means separates both the halved cylinders from each other.
