The invention relates to a method for determining the ground clearance of an automobile, including a step that comprises deriving (260) the ground clearance of the automobile from the output voltage (Vout) of a sensor (28). The invention comprises: using, as a sensor (28), an electric generator comprising an electromechanical transducer comprising at least one layer of an electro-active polymer material (10) arranged between at least one pair (100, 110) of electrodes (12, 12', 14, 14'), wherein said layer (10) and the electrodes are integrated into a bellow (2) made of a flexible material that surrounds a link between two non-aligned shafts (4, 6) and is rotatingly driven with the latter, the layer (10) of electro-active polymer material and the electrodes (12, 12', 14, 14') extending longitudinally relative to the shafts; recording (200) the peak value of the output voltage (Veap) of each pair of electrodes (100, 110) after scaling (Vsc); selecting (210) a pair of electrodes from said pairs; and setting (220) the output voltage (Vout) of the sensor (28) on the basis of the output voltage (Vsc) of the selected pair of electrodes. |
