PURPOSE: A watt meter with firmware upgrade function and method of upgrading firmware for watt meter are provided to automatically upgrade the firmware by using the telemetering net or the IR communication. CONSTITUTION: The watthour meter(2) comprises the upgrade processing unit(20). The upgrade processing unit comprises the memory(21), and the verification process part(22) and upgrade engine(23). The memory stores the downloaded firmware upgrade file. The verification process part effects an inspection of evidence the validity of the upgrade file downloaded in the memory. The upgrade engine practices the upgrade operation. The memory stores present version firmware used in the watthour meter. The watthour meter confirms the firmware upgrade according to the fixed time through the server for the firmware upgrade of the power companies.
