摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle vicinity monitoring system capable of starting an on-vehicle camera, shooting an accident or a burglar (the approach or contact of an obstacle) scene and recording the shot graphic data when there is a weak shock during parking/stopping a vehicle or a sign near the vehicle during period of time. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle vicinity monitoring system includes one or more ultrasonic sensors, one or more first on-vehicle cameras mounted close to or integrally with the ultrasonic sensors, and a control unit for controlling the ultrasonic sensors and the first on-vehicle cameras. When a vehicle is parked/stopped and the engine is turned off, the control unit shifts to a monitoring mode for monitoring obstacles that approach or come into contact with the vehicle after the expiration of a predetermined time interval. Further, the control unit compares a distance between an obstacle detected by the ultrasonic sensor in the monitoring mode and the ultrasonic sensor with a predetermined distance set value. When determining that there is an obstacle within the distance indicated by the distance set value, the control unit directs the first on-vehicle camera to start shooting the obstacle and record the graphic data shot by the first on-vehicle camera into memory. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p>
