PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retain a password used last time in a device and compute a password that should be used this time from the previous password, so that if a password input by a user does not match, the device is controlled not to be used. SOLUTION: This device for restricting the number of uses has a password receiving means for receiving the first password needed when an apparatus performing a predetermined process is used N-th times; a password creation means for creating a second password to be used N-th times which is created out of the password used (N-1)th times for the device; and a match detection means for detecting a match between the first password received and the second password created.
