PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform stable maintenance discharge even when a temperature of a panel is high, to reduce ineffective electric power as compared with that in the prior art, and to enhance a light emitting efficiency. SOLUTION: This driving method is provided with: a plasma display panel provided with a plurality of discharge cells having a display electrode pair; a sustain pulse generating circuit having a power recovery circuit for resonating an inter-electrode capacitance and inductance of the display electrode pair to cause a rise or fall of the sustain pulse, and a clamp circuit for clamping a voltage of the sustain pulse in a prescribed voltage, and for generating the sustain pulses of the frequency of brightness weight, to be applied to each of the display electrode pair in a maintenance period of a plurality of subfields provided in one field period; and a panel temperature determination part for detecting a temperature state of the plasma display panel. The sustain pulse generating circuit makes a rise period of the sustain pulse shorter than when an ambient temperature or a low temperature is determined, when the panel temperature determination part decides a high temperature.
