<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hexagonal boron nitride powder and an organic resin composition containing it, in particular, suitably usable for insulating varnish to be used for insulated wires and free of performance deterioration due to a processing separation, and excellent in insulation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The resin composition includes hexagonal boron nitride powder, wherein an aspect ratio is 3.0-7.0, a specific surface area is 25-60 m<SP>2</SP>/g, and a mass ratio (a mass ratio of internal oxygen quantity/surface oxygen quantity) of internal oxygen quantity to surface oxygen quantity defined by the following is 0.30-0.60. The definition of the internal oxygen quantity is a total sum of oxygen quantities detected while nitrogen is detected when oxygen quantity and nitrogen quantity are measured by using an oxygen/nitrogen simultaneous analyzer while applying heat from room temperature to 3,000°C at a temperature increase rate of 4.6°C/sec to a specimen in a helium environment.
