<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for safely producing pyridine acetonitrile used as a synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals etc. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing pyridine acetonitrile is characterized by reacting pyridineacetic acid with an alcohol, providing a pyridineacetic acid ester, then reacting the resultant ester with ammonia, affording pyridineacetamide, and further reacting the resultant pyridineacetamide with a Vilsmeier reagent.
