<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wheelchair preventing accidents occurring when a user gets on a footrest, and to provide the footrest. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The wheelchair is provided with a wheelchair body 10 with a seat, a wheel unit 20 with wheels 21, and the footrest 30. Also, a brake mechanism 40 for braking the wheels 21 is provided. The braking mechanism 40 has brake shoes 45, a brake handle 46 and an operation member. To the foot plates 31 of the footrest 30, the operation member is connected through an attaching member 41. When a user gets on the foot plates 31 of the footrest 30, the brake handle 46 is turned by the operation member.
