The roof (10) has a slide track working together with a control element, such that a front edge (24) of a covering element (12) experiences an offset transverse to a plane of a fixed roof section, during relative movement of a control carriage with respect to the covering element in a vehicle longitudinal direction. The carriage implements lifting- and swiveling movement in the track, during operation of the control element in the slide track, where the movement is directed transverse to the plane for controlling a position of the front edge. The carriage is guided in a guiding element.
