The present invention concerns the generation of tissues comprising one or more colonies of modified cells, tissues generated by these methods and uses of the same in methods for screening, testing and/or identifying compounds and their effects on a variety of aspects of cell function. In particular, there is provided a method of generating a tissue comprising one or more colonies of modified cells, said method comprising the step of introducing into one or more cells an exogenous component and maintaining the cells under conditions suitable to promote the growth, proliferation and/or differentiation thereof, to form a tissue comprising colonies of cells modified to include the exogenous component.
