Receiver 20 receives a signal from a transmitter 10 and power from a source, and comprises a signal responsive processor controlling power transmission to motor 32 situated remotely. Transmitter 10 generates a coded signal, and comprises an input to receive power from a source to charge a power supply (a battery), and indictors indicating in-operation and charging conditions. The transmission of signals is disabled during charging. The receiver and transmitter are preferably used to control a sewing machine motor. The distance between the motor and the receiver is sufficient to reduce signal interference caused by radiation from the motor. Multiple motors may be operated simultaneously free of interference from similar transmitting apparatus. One receiving apparatus may be used to control multiple motors in response to signals from their related transmitters. The receiver may include a further power output for charging the battery of the transmitter, and power-on and in-operation indicators. The receiver may cease supplying power to the motor in response to signal power below a threshold or no signal within a prescribed time. The transmitter may be a pedal or a rotary controller and may comprise a strap (14, Figure 10) for attaching to the operator, and having a wire 15 assisting signal propagation. |
