METHOD FOR GROWING A CARBON NANOTUBE ON A NANOMETRIC TIP

A method for the catalytic growth of isolated carbon nanotubes at the tip of a nanometric point by chemical vapor phase deposition (e.g. hot filament-assisted CVD), involves pre-coating all or part of the point with a double layer comprising a layer of titanium with a thickness of 0.1-0.2 nm and a layer of cobalt with a thickness of 0.3-2 nm. An independent claim is also included for substrates comprising one or more devices, points or cantilevers, coated with titanium/cobalt as above.
