Effect lacquer, and lacquering in particular for car bodies

Effect paint based on liq. crystal side-chain polymers (LCP) with the mesogenic units in an at least approx. chiral-nematic arrangement, also contg. surfactants(s) (I) which produce an automatic orientation of the mesogenic units in this arrangement during application of the paint, with a marked intensification of the colour effect. Also claimed are (i) articles, esp. car bodies, painted with a multilayer system including a colour-defining layer of the above effect paint contg. crosslinked LCP and cpd(s). (I); (ii) a process for painting such articles with this paint by spray- or dip-coating, so that the mesogenic units are automatically aligned by (I) in a way which enhances the colour effect.
