PURPOSE: A low consumption standby power circuit apparatus of an electric device and a control method thereof are provided to minimize power consumption due to a leakage current by forming a standby power supply terminal through an SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply) circuit. CONSTITUTION: A standby power supply terminal(10) converts an AC power into a DC power. A sub microcomputer(20) receives a power from the standby power supply terminal. A relay driving part(70) is controlled by the sub microcomputer, and receives a power from the standby power supply terminal. A main power supply terminal(60) supplies a power to a system of an electric device through a power switch of the relay driving part. A main microcomputer receives a power from the main power supply terminal. An infrared light receiving part(50) receives a signal of a remote controller. A power ON/OFF key(40) controls a power of the main microcomputer.
