A vertical axis wind turbine comprises a vertical stationary shaft 10 and a rotary shaft 20 mounted thereon with at least one bearing 21 between the two shafts 10, 20. A support bracket 30 is mounted at the top of the rotary shaft 20 and a support base 60 is mounted at the bottom of the rotary shaft 20, at least one bearing 22 being provided between the support base 60 and the stationary shaft 10. The support bracket 30 and support base 60 each have an equal number of branches 32, 63 extending there from, a connecting arm 80 being attached to each branch 32, 63 at a first end, and to a vertically extending rotor blade 90 at its opposite end. The rotary shaft 20 is preferably hollow and surrounds the stationary shaft 10. A connecting member 50 may be provided at the mid-point of the rotary shaft 20 to further support the rotor blades 90. |
