The present invention is a process for producing a hybrid seed, comprising:
(a) growing a Brassica plant obtained from seed line deposited as Brassica napus oleifera 97SN-1650, 97SN-1651, 96FNW-1792-03 or 96FNW-1822-07 having the respective ATCC accession numbers 97838, 97839, 209001 or 209002, progeny of these lines, or an inbred plant produced by the introduction of the homozygous restorer gene from a plant obtained from seed lines deposited as Brassica napus oleifera 97SN-1650, 97SN-1651, 96FNW-1792-03 or 96FNW-1822-07, as a male parent comprising a homozygous fertility restorer gene for ogura cytoplasmic male sterility;
(b) growing an ogura cytoplasmic male sterile Brassica plant in proximity to the plant in step (a) such that the plant of step (a) pollinates the ogura cytoplasmic male sterile Brassica plant; and
(c) harvesting hybrid seed from the ogura cytoplasmic male sterile Brassica plant, wherein the hybrid seed has a total glucosinolate content of less than 30 µmol per gram dry weight. The present invention is also an inbred plant, or a progeny plant, derived from a Brassica plant obtained from seed line deposited as Brassica napus oleifera 97SN-1650, 97SN-1651, 96FNW-1792-03 or 96FNW-1822-07 having the respective ATCC accession numbers 97838, 97839, 209001 or 209002, comprising a homozygous fertility restorer gene for ogura cytoplasmic male sterility. |
