Water purification method using nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria, used for aquaculture, uses polychaete worms to intensify contact between water and bacteria

Polychaete worms present in a substrate are used to intensify contact between the water and bacteria. The animals for which the water is intended may come into contact with these worms. A method for purifying water comprises bringing the water into contact with nitrifying and denitrifying bacteria in a tank. Intensive contact between the water and bacteria is ensured using species of polychaete worms, which like the bacteria are located in a substrate inside the tank. The purified water is used for keeping and breeding organisms, especially aquatic animals, which may come into contact with the worms. An independent claim is also included for the water purification apparatus used to carry out this method.
