An apparatus 10 for forming a beverage, comprising a housing 12 for supporting components of a beverage forming device, a receptacle 20 movable relative to the housing 12 between a vertical position and a forwardly inclined position in which the receptacle 20 facilitates insertion or removal of a beverage cartridge 24, a frame for supporting the receptacle 20 for pivotal movement, a lid 22 movable relative to the housing 12 between open and closed positions, the lid 22 in the closed position being above the receptacle 20 and cooperating with the receptacle 20 in the vertical position to enclose a beverage cartridge 24 during formation of a beverage, and connecting means for connecting the receptacle 20 to the lid 22 and for pivoting the receptacle 20 between the vertical and forwardly inclined positions in response to movement of the lid 22 between the open and closed positions.
