The device has two lateral supports (4), and a central support (2) fixed against a rear skirt (3) of a motor vehicle and covered by a central part of a rear bumper (1) of the vehicle. Each lateral support is covered by one of ends of the bumper. The central support and the lateral supports are molded with plastic material. The central support has two opposed ends (2a, 2b) that are connected to the corresponding lateral supports by respective connectors (6) such that the lateral supports are fixed to the central support before mounting an assembly of the supports on the vehicle. An independent claim is also included for a method for mounting a rear bumper on a rear skirt of a motor vehicle.
