The vacuum cleaner has an electric motor arranged in a housing (2), which includes a receptacle for a waste separating device i.e. filter bag. A vacuum cleaner cover (1) covers the receptacle. An adjusting potentiometer is arranged on a circuit board for controlling the motor. The circuit board is directly or indirectly fixed at the housing. An adjustment knob (14) for adjusting power of the vacuum cleaner is connected with the cover, and a connection between the knob and the potentiometer exists in the same direction as a displacement direction of the cover with respect to the housing.
