<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To absorb energy by a lightweight and highly efficient energy absorbing member by suppressing the breakage of the root section of the energy absorbing member without increasing the mass of the energy absorbing member. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In this vehicle energy absorbing structure 10, a crash box 16 is installed between a bumper reinforcement 12 and side members 14 in the vehicle longitudinal direction. The crash box 16 has an open cross section when viewed in the vehicle longitudinal direction. The pair of free ends 16A, 16B of the crash box 16 in the vehicle longitudinal direction are disposed in respective areas B and C on the inside of the centroid O of the open cross section when viewed in the vehicle lateral direction.
