<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain and improve uniformity of brightness, even if an emission angle of laser light source varies. <P>SOLUTION: A plane light emitting device 10 includes: a light source section 1 including at least one of semiconductor laser sources 1a, 1b and 1c for emitting laser light; a light guide plate 8 which guides laser light from an incident face 8a, and which emits plane light from an emitting face 8b; a beam forming section 2 for forming the laser light emitted from the light source section 1 in a predetermined shape, by behavior of lenses 21a, 22a, 21b, 22b, 21c and 22c; and an intensity distribution conversion section 5 for converting an intensity distribution of laser light 9 formed by the beam forming section 2, to an approximately uniform intensity distribution in a length direction of the incident face 8a.
