<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable a driver to quickly recognize abnormality when there is abnormality in power supply of a main power source, and to elongate a steering assist possible period by maintaining power supply of an auxiliary power source. <P>SOLUTION: An assist control part changes the characteristics of an assist map as steering torque Tx related with target current ias* from original assist characteristics into abnormality time assist characteristics when power supply abnormality of the main power source is detected. Steering operation becomes heavy suddenly to enable the driver to recognize the abnormality. After that, the abnormality time assist characteristics are changed to further reduce the assist force to the steering torque in accordance with lowering of actual charge capacity of the auxiliary power source.
