PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a catalyst for manufacturing unsaturated aldehyde and/or unsaturated carboxylic acid excellent in mechanical strength.

SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the catalyst for manufacturing unsaturated aldehyde and/or unsaturated carboxylic acid made of a compound oxide containing molybdenum, bismuth and iron comprises the following processes of: drying a solution or aqueous slurry containing catalyst raw material; thereafter, performing a first step calcining of dried solution or slurry in an environment of molecular oxygen containing gas to obtain a calcined material; heat-treating the calcined material in the existence of a reductive substance to obtain a reduced material of which the prescribed mass reduction rate is 0.05 to 6%; and performing a second step calcining of the reduced material in an environment of molecular oxygen containing gas to manufacture the catalyst for manufacturing unsaturated aldehyde and/or unsaturated carboxylic acid.
