PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head maintenance method whereby an ejection performance of ink can easily be recovered, and to provide a head maintenance device. SOLUTION: The head maintenance method of carrying out maintenance by contacting a recording head 2 of an inkjet recorder which forms an image by ejecting an active beam curable ink is cleaning using an ink absorber 4. Firstly, the ink absorber preliminarily soaked with a solvent is made to contact a recording head nozzle surface 3. Secondly, an absorbing point of the contacted ink absorber is moved to a new point. Third, the operation of moving (rubbing) the ink absorber soaked with the solvent while kept in contact with the recording head nozzle surface is repeated two or more times.
