The shaft (1) has a functional section (2) at which a component e.g. switching flap (6), is rotationally fixed, where the shaft is supported in a bearing block (7) of a bearing section with a round cross-section. A drive section is provided for fastening a rotary drive to the shaft. The functional section and the drive section have a non-circular cross-section, which is flat and is wider than the cross-section of the bearing section. The functional section is expanded over an elongate region of the component. An independent claim is also included for a method for producing a switching shaft.
