PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To converge toner concentration to reference toner concentration so as to stabilize the toner concentration by reducing a difference between predicted toner consumption and actual toner consumption caused due to the variations in the amount of toner deposition. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a toner concentration detecting means 27 for detecting the toner concentration in a developer in a developing unit 5; a dot counting means for counting the number of dots per page; a toner consumption predicting means 33 for multiplying the number of counted dots, obtained by the dot counting means by the toner consumption per dot, and predicting the toner consumption to be consumed per page; and a toner supply amount calculating means 34 for calculating the toner supply amount, based on the detected toner concentration detected by the toner concentration detecting means 27 and the toner consumption, predicted by the toner consumption predicting means 33. The toner consumption value per dot for use in the toner consumption predicting means 33 is corrected, in proportion to the difference between the detected toner concentration which is detected by the toner concentration detecting means 27 and the reference toner concentration, and is then updated.
