PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of protecting individual's privacy, because many service providers of wireless communication systems have position locating ability, for locating a mobile station within an extremely narrow range with accuracy but some users of the wireless communication system may not desire that their precise locations are known to other parties. SOLUTION: Methods and apparatus are disclosed herein for controlling the degree of precision with which geographic information is reported to a requesting entity, and a precise geographic location is used to determine an adjusted geographic location, which is then transmitted to the requesting entity rather than the precise geographic location.
