<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable of lengthen the service life of an electromagnetic clutch, by inexpensively restraining a temperature rise. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A control part controls a carrier clutch so that a first mode, that is, an ON state of the carrier clutch continues (S11). The number of paper supplied by a carrier roller is counted (S12), and when determining that the counted paper number reaches the first predetermined number (YES in S13), the control part controls the carrier clutch in a second mode, that is, so as to turn off the carrier clutch every time when carrying the paper (S14). Afterwards, the control part counts the number of paper supplied by the carrier roller again (S15), and when determining that the counted paper number reaches the second predetermined number (YES in S16), the control part controls again so that the first mode, that is, the ON state of the carrier clutch continues (S11).
