<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder solving conveyance problems caused by a load acting on a rear end part of a paper sheet, caused by a paper feeding means when paper sheets are fed one by one from a paper feeding part. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The paper feeder supplies a plurality of the paper sheets stacked/stored on a pushing-up plate one by one, based on rotation of a paper feeding roller. A separating member elastically pressure-contacts the paper feeding roller, and then, each separated paper sheet is conveyed by a timing roller. Rotation driving of the paper feeding roller is continued after a rear end of a fed paper sheet slips out of a pressure-contact position (a) between the pushing-up plate and the paper feeding roller until it reaches a nip part (b) between the paper feeding roller and the separating member.
