CHESS APPARATUS

The invention concerns a chess apparatus which includes a set of collapsible chess pieces (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20). Each chess piece has first and second components (24, 36) which are of flat proportions. The components have upper edges and straight lower edges (32). According to the invention the first component (24) has a vertical slot therein extending to its lower edge and the second component has a vertical slot therein extending to its upper edge. The components can be engaged with one another by aligning the slots and moving the components together in a slotwise direction. This forms an assembled chess piece at least a lower part of which is of cruciform cross-section with the straight lower edges of the lower ends of the components coplanar and forming a cruciform base on which the chess piece can stand.
