This invention discloses methods for fabricating calcium zincate, an active material for negative electrodes of alkaline storage batteries. These fabrication methods are nucleation methods that use calcium zincate with small granule diameter as seeds to fabricate the calcium zincate. The methods include the following steps: (a) adding calcium zincate as seeds to an alkaline solution; (b) mixing a calcium salt solution and a zinc salt solution to form a solution mixture, and, (c) adding the solution mixture to the alkaline solution at a predetermined temperature while stirring said alkaline solution with said solution mixture to obtain the calcium zincate. The fabricated calcium zincate granules have a small granule diameter and are suitable for use in batteries with high discharge current or power output. These fabrication methods have a short reaction time and consume less energy and raw materials. |
