PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing apparatus can easily and securely transmit data from an apparatus to the information processing apparatus. SOLUTION: A document management server 102 embeds an FTP server 107. FTP authentication information on the FTP server is automatically generated from random numbers so as to be one-to-one with authentication information 104 on the document management server, and stored by being associated with a user. An address book including the automatically generated authentication information is simultaneously distributed to an image reader 108. The FTP server 107 uses the automatically generated authentication information when image data is received as a document from the image reader 108. When authentication is successful, the document management server 102 associates the document with the user of the document management server associated with the authentication information to store the document.
