PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the accuracy and efficiency of detection processing of organ areas in an image. SOLUTION: An image processing apparatus includes a face area detection part for detecting a face area corresponding to a face image in a target image, a detection condition setting part for setting detection conditions specifying possible ranges of at least one of the position, size and number of organ areas to be detected for the detection of organ areas corresponding to facial organ images in the face area based on the detection result of the face area, and an organ area detection part for detecting organ areas satisfying the set detection conditions.
