<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sand mold for low-pressure casting which can produce high-quality castings with high productivity and to provide a low-pressure casting apparatus utilizing the same. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A low-pressure casting apparatus 10 includes a sand mold 20 and a low-pressure casting furnace 50. The sand mold includes an upper mold 20A and a lower mold 20B and has a cavity 22 for a product. A sink heat 28 is provided above the sand mold 20, and a pouring gate 24 is provided below the sand mold 20. One end of the pouring gate 24 communicates with the cavity 22, and the other end of the pouring gate 24 communicates with a molten metal supply pipe (or a stalk) 60 in the low-pressure casting furnace 50. A chiller 26 for solidifying the molten metal in the pouring gate 24 is provided around the pouring gate 24. When the molten metal is poured from the low-pressure casting furnace 50 into the cavity 22 through the molten metal supply pipe 60 and the pouring gate 24, a molten metal 58 is solidified in the pouring gate 24 by cooling effect of the chiller 26. Accordingly, even when the molten metal in the cavity 22 remains unsolidified, the sand mold 20 can be separated from the low-pressure casting furnace 50. Ž<P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT Ž
