PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmitting apparatus which can convert image data when transmitting the image data by electronic mail into a proper file format according to an electronic mail address or a domain name. SOLUTION: The image transmitting apparatus includes a scanner 102 which inputs image data, a control portion 101 which converts the input image data into transmitting data of a predetermined file format, an operation panel 106 which receives the input of the electronic mail of the destination of converted transmitting data, and a communication portion 105 which transmits the transmitting data to the input electronic mail address. The control portion 101 extracts the domain name from the electronic mail address inputted by the operation panel 106, converts the file format of the image data according to the electronic mail address or the domain name extracted from the electronic mail address.
