The universal joint (4) has two fork-type joints, which have two case arms at a distance from each other. The distance of a respective ball of a skew-angle roller bearing of a lateral surface of the depressing opening is smaller than the diameter of the ball. The skew-angle roller bearing is formed as combined radial and axial thrust bearing for the support of the loads in a normal operation of the steering column. An independent claim is included for a steering column of a motor vehicle.
