PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support the tracking of an electronic file by simple processing. SOLUTION: In a file processing apparatus 10, an additional information acquisition unit 11 acquires identification information on a person browsing a file or a computer in which a file is browsed. Then, if a file access detection unit 12 detects file-opening, an additional rule reference unit 14 refers to an additional rule and identifies an unused area in the file which has no effect on browsing of the file even if information is added thereto, an information adding unit 15 adds identification information to the unused area, and a pre-added information reading unit 16 read pre-added information from the file. On the other hand, if the file access detection unit 12 detects file-closing, the additional rule reference unit 14 refers to the additional rule to identify an unused area in the file, an additional information generation unit 18 combines the identification information with the pre-added information to produce new information, and the information adding unit 15 adds the information to the unused area.
