PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it difficult to remove a birefringent layer composed of a solidified liquid crystal material or a layered product including the birefringent layer from an article without damaging or deforming the layer or the layered product. SOLUTION: A security device 10 includes: a substrate 11; and a birefringent layer 13 which is supported by one major side of the substrate 11 and composed of a solidified liquid crystal material, and which includes at least either a plurality of apertures one-dimensionally or two-dimensionally arrayed or one or more slits.
